Hi everybody. Some days ago I found out about the WIC program and decided to apply for it to take part. Has anybody heard about it and mayb u are in this program? What can u tell about it?
Thanks girls
I was on WIC twenty years ago when I was pregnant with my first baby. I was only 16 & dirt poor and WIC was a huge lifesaver for me and my baby.
You have to quality for WIC so it's not something every pregnant woman can receive (this might have changed, I don't really know.) Anyway, while you're pregnant you'll receive a card much like an EBT card (we had paper coupons in my day) that allows you to purchase certain items like milk, eggs, peanut butter, juice and cereal. They have a list of pre-approved food so you can't buy just any brand. The goal is for mom to have healthy food.
Once the baby is born you will receive formula or you will continue to get actual food it your breastfeeding. I don't know how long you can get it after the baby is born but my sister still gets it and my nephew is three.
Like I said, it's been twenty years since I had it so a lot might have changed but I believe that it's generally the same. Good luck.

Oh that's great that they help u and ur sister that much!
I m looking for job from home and can't find so I think this program could help a little bit to my hard-working husband )
it is a good program. they check your kid out occasionally and give ya food and formula. its worth doing in my opinion. its been 11 yrs since i have used it but im sure.it hasnt changed much
Several mothers in my huge family have used the WIC program.
IMO it is one of the best and most important program in the system. Mothers get the support they need through counseling and vouchers for good nourishment for both her and the baby.
After birth the baby (in Ky) can stay on the program for two years so long as mom qualifies. As the baby grows the food vouchers change to provide good wholesome nourishment.
Baby can be checked and given it's shots at the Health Dept. Mom can qualify for her well woman checkups at the Health dept too.
The price of formula is outrageous, baby food and juice are outrageous, so no one should pass this important program up if they qualify.
You should absolutly apply for it. if you qualify, great, if not, then you didn't need it, and must make alot of money.
I love the program and encourage everyone to look into the guidelines and apply. However.....there is a huge gulf between "must make a lot of money" and make too much to qualify.
