I looked on many sites. For available apartments. It sure looks like slim pickens. So many say no pets.

Can I live near downtown in a decent apartment for under 650? Or will I have to go out farther?

I am near 50, female.

Here is my thread that brought me to Prescott-do you think I made the right choice?

An older woman's playground--do you know a place?

Thank you folks!

With reference to your original post, sadly, the senior citizen center is not within walking distance from downtown.

Nice place with nice people, though.

Sadly, the lower rent landlords can be picky, due to the demand. And some people see Chihuahuas as yappy. You might offer to rent month to month, giving the landlord enhanced rights to a non-contested eviction to get over some of that.

Perhaps someone with more RE or rental knowledge will add to that.

I knew Prescott had to be too good for me. I guess I chose wrong and have to keep looking.

I am out priced again.

I best set my sight lower.

And your right about negotiation, but I think that would be for someone who lives near and can travel up several times. I'm in Tulsa.

Back to the drawing board.

Going by craigslist for about the 9 months that I have tracked things on and off, rent availability comes in spurts. Initially when my wife and I were looking at moving up here there were all sorts of rentals available (around Christmas last year). But by February only a few were left. I've seen apartments for under 650 in the down town area. I would patiently keep looking if you really want to move up here, and be prepared to move on something quick. Hopefully for what ever reason towards the end of the year things will loosen up again and more properties will become available for rent.

infocyde that IS awesome news. I thank you!

I think I'm going to try Colorado Springs this winter and see if it is not too cold. I have a post here.
Colorado Springs vs Albuquerque

If it is, then I know that Prescott WILL be doable at some point in apartment time. I think Prescott is a real winner. But I've gotta keep my dog, and the lower rent.

Thanks for posting your information!
A definate lay in wait proposition.

WAY colder than Prescott!

I don't know if your Chihuahua is yappy or not, but the quieter the better, as far as landlords go. Some landlords are dog lovers, and might bend a little if they can be assured of no barking.
