1. Texas Tech vs. Texas, 2008, Lubbock: leading up to the game, there were acres upon acres of tailgating, with probably thousands of RV's parked on campus. Also, students were in tents surrounding the stadium, and thousands went to Gameday, where Corso put on the right headgear. The weather was great, too. At the game itself, it was loud enough to make the earth shake, the band did a tribute to the coach at halftime, and then the most watched play of the year in college football happened in the corner where I was sitting/standing. Then the field rush(es) happened, the band played the fight song, and University Avenue turned into a symphony of honking soon after. Great times.
2. Texas Tech vs. Cal, 2004, San Diego: also had nice weather (for an El Nino winter night), a good crowd, and an excellent outcome.
I've been to tons of games, but the funny thing is most of them have been unremarkable.
I was at the Bengals-Giants game at the Meadowlands last year and that was a good game. Went into overtime where the Giants won on a FG. Unfortunately, I am a Bengals fan. I was actually pleased with the way they played and it looked like they straightened out the ship after two very bad performances the prior two games. However, this was the game where Palmer hurt his elbow. He missed the following week against Cleveland. Played very well against the Cowboys the next week in a loss and then missed the rest of the season.
Jets vs Dolphins at the Meadowlands in 1986, both Marino and Ken O'Brian passed for over 400 yards that game, with a record 927 passing yards combined for the game. It was a shoot out which had each team going ahead with the Jets coming out on top. I was cheering on the Dolphins and disappointed to see Marino take a loss with such an exceptional performance, but the game was the most exciting one I've ever been to, non-stop offense at it's best.
2000, #25th ranked Mississippi State at South Carolina
South Carolina is coming off consecutive 0-11 and 1-10 seasons, fans are hungry for anything resembling a win.
Late in the 4th quarter, Carolina is down 19-16, driving toward the end zone, and starting QB Phil Petty goes down with an injury after a rough 3rd and 10. So 3rd string walk-on QB Erik Kimrey comes in, only thrown 8 passes (with 1 INT) in his career. Few had even heard of the kid, but its 4th down, 10 yards to go, for the last shot we have to win.
Kimrey says to Lou Holtz, "Coach, I can throw the fade."
Holtz says, "Well, if that's what you want, let's go."
That's an easy one for me......Colts v. Patriots in the AFC Championship Game at the RCA Dome, January 2007. Colts were down 21-3 at one point before making the greatest comeback in conference championship history.

spent the weekend with some people out at penn st - spent game day tailgating and just having a good time
at that point it was the largest crowd in the history of penn state - a lot of buzz for the game - joepa was 1 win away from the bear, they had an emotional entrance onto the field by a player who was seriously injured the season prior, the crowd was buzzing ...... just a lot of excitement
and then miami hung the biggest 1st half margin in school history on them going up 30-0 and completely dominating all phases
as a hurricane fan and penn state hater it was pure magic
I have two games tied for the best I've seen in person.
#1. USC vs. Notre Dame in '05. The crowd was going insane for the duration of this game. I've never felt an atmosphere like that before.
#2. Green Bay Packers vs. Chicago Bears in '08. This was the coldest Soldier Field game on record. The Bears were fighting to keep their playoff hopes alive. Bears win in OT 20-17.
