Oster Beehive Blender

Rating: 4 out of 5
  • Currently 4.0/5.0

The Oster Beehive Blenders overall rating is very good. It makes great smoothies even when chopping and blending frozen fruit. It blends food very well however it does lack a little power for crushing ice to use in frozen drinks. The trick is to add only a few cubes at a time. It is also a little noisier than other blenders I have owned but if you place a tea towel beneath the machine, it will absorb some of the noise.

Oster calls this their retro style blender - it may have a retro style look but it performs at levels for today. I love the simplicity of their retro look and its neutral color matches with just about every other appliance in the kitchen.

Oster's Beehive Blender has a very simple design with only two speeds - go and pulse (high and low). Nothing fancy and easy to clean. Although there are only two speeds, it works on 600 watts of power which is enough to cover just about any blending need from drinks to nuts. The jar is made of glass and is large enough to hold 6-cups, it is safe to use in a dishwasher and is thermal shock safe - meaning it can go straight from the heat of the dishwasher to being used to make an ice cold beverage. The lid and the blades are not dishwasher safe and need to be washed by hand. The base is made of chrome that sits on rubber feet so that it doesn't slide when in use.

The blades that are included and that can be purchased separately are all made of stainless steel. You may also choose to purchase one of the mini glass jars, food processor attachments, or the individual shake makers that are available. The blender is made in North America. The most important parts of the blender are made of metal so it is guaranteed to last longer than blenders made with plastic parts.

This blender stands 16 inches tall; it weighs approximately 11 pounds and includes a one year warranty. The cost for the blender averages $61.00 to $68.00 which is comparable to other blenders of the same size and capabilities.

Overall, I have found it to be a very good quality blender for a good price. It beats out quality of some of the higher priced blenders.
