Craftsman 170cc Snow Blower 22" Path Two Stage (MSRP $499)

Rating: 4 out of 5
  • Currently 4.0/5.0

After spending as many winters as possible in Florida, my choice to come to Ohio for winter wasn't my own. Ultimately, I needed to help my elderly parents select a reliable snow blower that was easy to use and very reliable. I read some reviews on-line to help me make my decision and found that there are many brands of snow blowers including Toro, John Deere, and Honda. On an average winter Ohio can get up to 60" of snow fall, so I had to find a machine that could handle up to 10" of snow in a single snowfall.
There are several types of snow blowers, and some of them are not designed for heavy snowfall, so if you live anywhere north of the Mason-Dixon line this is an important factor to consider. Ultimately, the two stage blower made the most sense because this machine is more powerful, and makes a quick task of clearing nearly every type of snowfall, from powder to ice covered snow. Although the two stage machines tend to be more expensive, they are more powerful and also feature other option such as self-propelled wheels.
The Craftsman 179cc Two Stage Snow Blower is sold by Sears, and since pop had a long standing relationship with the folks in the power tool department at the local Sears, this seemed to be a perfect choice. It means that you have a name like Craftsman that can be easily serviced at the local Sears, it's easy to find parts, and won't be difficult or expensive to get parts or maintain over time. I liked that fact that it was easy to service or find parts for as well as the great warranty. The Craftsman 179cc 22" Snow Blower features the following:
o 179cc 4-cycle OHV Craftsman® Engine
o Push button electric start, no more manual starting worries
o Single forward power-propelled speed which makes it easy for slippery walks and driveways
o Larger 22" clearing width, 16" intake height
o 9" serrated auger, 10" impeller
o Manual chute control and clearing device
o 10" x 4" Snow Hog tires
o Mitten Grip Starter handle, ergonomic design

The Craftsman snow blower is made from quality, easy-to-find parts and mechanics that make it easy to maintain in top operating condition. Additionally, there is the benefit of being able to easily service the machine when needed at nationwide Sears stores or at your local lawn repair shop. The 179cc Craftsman engine is a powerful 4-cycle engine that is built to last and does not require messy oil mixing. The blades are made of steel, not plastic or some other material, which means it will last longer and deal with a variety of tough surface in icy condition. Finally the easy push-button electric start means that people with less upper body strength can get this snow blower going and get the job done with no hassles or strained backs.
