2006 Honda CR-V 2WD EX Automatic

Rating: 4 out of 5
  • Currently 4.0/5.0

My husband purchased this vehicle for commuting to work and for family trips. He needed a reliable vehicle with plenty of cargo space because we enjoy camping and needed to be able to carry gear plus kids and dogs. We chose an automatic because we lived in the city at the time and a manual transmission wasn't practical.

It was used and had just over 35,000 miles on it when we bought it. To be safe, we purchased an extended service warranty so that any potential repairs could be handled at the dealership. To the vehicle's credit, we only had to take it in for usual servicing. Fuel mileage was about 23 mpg which is very good for an SUV, but it was still more than we would have liked and it was the reason that we eventually traded it for a smaller car.

The interior creature comforts were very nice. The sound system had excellent quality and CDs played well in the CD drive. The headlights were bright and well-positioned so night driving was much less hassle. The seats were also comfortable even on long trips and the cabin was roomy for us, both boys, the dog, and a cargo load of camping supplies.

When accelerating quickly, there did seem to be a slight hitch in the transmission. It was nothing serious, but it felt like the something slipped just a bit as it changed gears. It never reached the point where we took it in for service before we traded the vehicle.

The only other problem we had with the vehicle was that the rear hatch developed a seal problem and there was some air leakage in the back. It affected the climate control slightly and there was some noise, but it wasn't enough that we were willing to wait for a repair.

This was a very good vehicle and we enjoyed it. We went to sedan for fuel economy, but now that the new CR-Vs have mileages closer to that of our sedan, we would definitely purchase it again.
