Having read a number of books on life in the Middle East, it seem weird to me to find that in many parts of the Middle East, birthdates aren't recorded, no birthday celebrations.

In a recent book on Afghanistan, there's tribal members there who don't even know the year they were born. All they do is guess: this young man is starting to grow a moustache, he must be in his teens by now? She had her first period, she must be? He's growing his first grey hairs, he must be?

It's been said, age is merely a state of mind, and ignorance is bliss.

So how would that effect you, psychologically? What would be the advantages, disadvantages?

It should have no bearing. We who know our birthdays, only "know" by indoctrination or "rumor." We were just basically told a story and we believed it and then ran with it. If you don't have that indoctrination, then you are free from a story.

Well first of all, other cultures are QUITE different from the American culture. Americans tend to compare the size, length, or longevity of various things... Which house or car is bigger? Who is taller? Who has the most money? How much money do you have? Etc. And how old are you?

In other cultures, this comparison of "size/length" is not done. So I imagine they would not miss a thing and there would be no psychological impact whatsoever.

To learn more, might want to search google.com for the following words...
