Am I the only one like this? I somehow amass a ton of things that are not necessarily cluttering my life or inconveniencing me but for some reason, at any given notice, I just start throwing stuff away. It doesn't matter what it is, if I feel like I have too much I purge myself of at least 70% of it. I do find myself starting over and amassing things , and I'll feel the need to purge of other things. Anyone else have this weird process?
Nope, not at all. If anything, we're the other extreme. We find some sort of oddball thing at a garage sale for really inexpensive and just know it will be good for something sometime. We've got way more stuff than we need. But, we're also starting to build a new house, so maybe we do need the kitchen sink we just bought at a yard sale.

LOL wow a whole sink. My dad was an avid collector of mechanic related stuff and tools , but other than that, no one in my family is/was a hoarder, so I'm not repulsed by having lots of things, I just like culling I guess, my things.

I do this twice a year. Here it's called "hoeing out." If I haven't used it, read it, worn it, played with it, or looked for it in the past year, I don't need it. There are a few exceptions like important documents and the toilet plunger, though. I try very hard not to amass any more stuff, with variable success.
Gosh, when I was young there was no problem purging, the less the better...now over the past 20 some years, I've accumulated so much "stuff" and I need to start downsizing, and it's so much more difficult to leave go of stuff.
I'm a purger but my wife is a collector. It makes for some difficult discussions. I've ultimately designated a few areas as "my space" where I can purge to my heart's content- the garage, the office, the attic, and my closet. We're one of the only families on the street that use both stalls of the garage for cars instead of junk.
We're about to move again so I'm already planning my next purge
I do this too ruthlessly sometimes—I had big moves in 1999 and 2015—and find myself re-buying certain items later on, mostly CDs and cookbooks. Lately, I went to eBay and bought some of the dishes I donated last year to Habitat for Humanity.
