Ten years ago, it was unlikely that you knew someone who identified as transgender. Today, it’s unlikely that you don’t know someone who identifies as transgender. This is especially true of teenage girls. Abigail Shrier analyzes this disturbing trend and its implications.

We personally know 3 transitioning women. All waited until adulthood.

Like the presenter in this short video, I strongly believe that a lot of these young girls (very young children) are caving into peer, media and teacher pressure and their families are just going along for the ride.

I think a person's brain must develop before they start messing with their bodies.

I am presenting this for discussion, not arguments.

I agree totally. My daughter has had crushes on different boys since she was young. Only a month or so ago, she said she might be bi. I said let's talk about it. She admitted she never gave it a thought until a neighbor girl told her she was bi. It's peer pressure. There are books about it. One is called Sex Scandal and the other is called Irreversible Damage. It's a thing.

I can't imagine growing up today and having the broad options as to how to categorize yourself. It's truly mind-boggling.

What if your thinking is progressing and you truly ARE going through a phase but you cut off your breasts or genitals?

The one issue that is never talked about is the long term effects of taking hormones of the opposite sex. That can't be healthy. It could cause cancer or any number of illnesses, I would imagine.

Here's an article that Abigail Shrier wrote back in January.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...hange-sex.html

One possible reason for the increase in the number of girls wanting to become boys is porn and especially violent porn. It makes you wonder how big of an impact the internet is having on a child's development and how will all of this affect society in the long term?

Puberty blockers are standard for gender-questioning people under 18. All that does is, if you realize you aren't actually trans or nb, you can go off the blockers and just go through your gender's normal puberty a bit late. But if you do turn out to be trans or nb, it prevents you from developing e.g. masculine facial features that are difficult and extremely expensive to get rid of through surgery.

It's just estrogen and testosterone. Cis women are exposed to estrogen their whole lives and don't get cancer from it. Actually, cis men and cis women both have both hormones, just the ratios are different.

But kids don't even "immediately" go on blockers. Just because of something that may be a random comment or passing mood, therapy is called for to determine the basis for these thoughts/feelings and to understand if they are deep enough to consider taking any action at all. That is STANDARD.

People think a kid makes one comment and they immediately get body parts cut off and added - it does NOT work like that. So everybody calm down.

If it was my kid there would be a lot of discussion and research being done - me and them, together. I wouldn't even let my kid get their ears pierced without waiting a month to see if they still wanted to! Same for coloring their hair magenta and especially getting a tattoo. Why would this deserve LESS time and attention?

Actually not quite accurate. After menopause, estrogen and progesterone levels drop dramatically in women. Women given replacement hormones have a higher risk of certain cancers, including uterine cancer, breast cancer, and ovarian cancer. Men with high estrogen levels have a higher risk of breast cancer and prostate cancer.

I have a history of breast cancer and any hormonal therapy is contraindicated for me.

It's a "thing" and we shall see how this develops in Western society as a long term trend. I have no dog in the race, it's just interesting to me. I want people to be free to pursue their own destinies, but question if a child has sufficient maturity to make lifetime decisions. Courts will decide these weighty matters.

Maybe you should read some good studies on the effects of hormones and pharmaceuticals in our water supply. There are plenty of them available.
