Worked outside today and went to jump in the pool. What the he!! Only 86 degrees! I need at least 87 minimum! Sort of a tongue in cheek post with all the death and destruction from the media the past few days. I'll take it though! Our thoughts are with Nawlins. I hope they fair like we did.
So, what is the temp everyone keeps their pool? We only have a heat pump w/o a cover. I think the covers are too dangerous. May have too many Yuelings and wander out back. Game over! I suspect a solar heater would do good in this weather but ours went with Charley. Not planning on putting another back on.
Sort of a light hearted post to get out of the doldrums.

Yep the sunshine is back! We also have a heat pump without a cover. We keep the pool at 88. Mr Trbl would like it at 90, but thats just a bit too warm for me.

86 deg. is fine for me, but my wife won't consider getting in the pool if it's now at least 90. We have a solar heater that works fine now, but from what I've read here in the past I'm not sure it will maintain that temp during the winter months. We also have a solar cover stored in the garage which we use in the winter months as well.

Mine got down to 82 Monday (felt good after a jog). I turned the solar heater valves back on yesterday since we finally got some sun, and it was back up to 88 within 5 hours.

Sad to say I have only gone in my pool two times in the entire past year. Not sure why we had one put in. It only gets used when the grand kids come to visit. I like my pool at 86 or higher. We had a pool heater at our other house and only used it once a year when the grand kids came in the winter. Again, not sure why I had a pool put in there either. That is why we chose not to put a heater in here. The pool temp depends on the air temp too. Set it at whatever is comfortable for you. The grand kids will jump in with the temp in the 60's because that is what they are used to in NY. I would freeze my butt off, literally at that temp. Anyway 86-90 is a good range for me to go in.

Heat pump keeps it at least 90 degrees year round! We swim in the evening most of the time and it sure feels GREAT!

When we used to have a pool the 85-90 degree temps were great for initial immersion into the pool but after a few minutes i always found the temperature too warm and wished it could be more refreshing with water temps in the mid 70's,Mom and Dad never did use the pool and ultimately bought another house with no pool..

I'm with you jambo. We use the pool for an hour every day, and after 10 minutes, 86 is just too warm. We keep the heater at 78 in the winter, and never have it on in the summer; if it was practical to install a chiller, I would.
