While I don't want to bash who we have tried to use/get an estimate from, are there other remodelers who someone has used in the past that they are happy with? We just bought a home in PGI and want to remodel both of our baths, but contacts with a remodeler in the past has been slow. They are not getting back to us with s quote. We have even picked out the counter tops, tile, and flooring, but they are just sitting on it!!!!!

This is the way things are in Florida. People complain about having no jobs but yet when you need something done, if you get someone to actually give a quote and show up its a miracle. Many times I have given a job to someone because they are the only one who showed up to give a quote. This board is a great resource for recommendations, unfortunately, I don't have any.

We have a terrific General Contractor who remodeled the back of our house, removing 12' of a load bearing wall and replacing it with pocket sliding glass doors (see thread, Remodeling with pocket sliders). We later rehired him to change out all of the house glass to hurricane impact windows and sliders. Not sure if he does bathrooms but I am sure if you call him, he will call you back. Mike Progl, Coral Coast Construction, 941-628-4069. Several city data members have used him with good reviews.

His trade work at our house included demo, concrete, framing, roofing, electrical, stucco, tile, drywall, paint and doors/windows. His parents own Charlotte County Glass and he has been a licensed GC for most of his adult life. Like I say, we've hired him twice and would bring him back again. Let me know how it works if you call him.

Messing About....thanks I gave the number to my husband and he will be calling Mike today. Hard part about this whole remodel thing is that we live in another state and are only able to get down there on a limited basis. We thought we had all of this taken care of when we were down there a few weeks ago, but as I mentioned in my original post the follow through is bad. We are even having problems with the A/C guy. No follow through there either. Guess one of us will have to fly down there to meet them, discuss what we want and go through another round of selecting counter tops, cabinets and flooring.

I assure you, if you make clear your situation, he will respect your time and be there.
I would also trust him alone in my house, if need be. He supervises the subs closely and demands perfection from them. When the roof section was replaced with shingles that were too darkly colored to match the existing, Mike made the sub tear it all out and redo it at no cost to me. And that was done the very next day.

I wanted to get a bid from Coral Coast when we started our remodel, but the better half insisted she knew which contractor she wanted, a decision we both now regret. That said, some of the subs are excellent, and if you decide to go on your own (which I would now do for a bathroom), I can pass along their names.
