Have a big oak in my front yard that is sick and dying.Am confused about the rules here in Charlotte County for taking it down. One place says to take an oak down there must be a permit costing a few thousand but there is an exception with no permit involved for doing domestic landscape work.Understand if doing work that should be permitted without one the fine can be many dollars.

IMHO, I think it's best to call the county on this one and deal with them directly since it's them that can gig you if you're in violation. Since the tree is dying, maybe if you can claim it's a threat to you and/or a neighbors house it can be removed w/o a permit? Just a (wishful) guess.
Good luck.

Agreed. Our key phrase was it's a "Dangerous condition". Once we used that no one wanted to second guess it and be wrong.

Yep, Mike's right. The County is your best bet. Please report back with what they say.

Will take the advise and go talk to somebody up at the county taking the pictures along. The tree is a danger, the blue vehicle in the picture is parked under the tree sometimes until the owner seen a limb was falling above it and started parking a way up the street.

It depends on the type of oak tree. We had two oaks cut down and called the county first. They looked it up using an aerial view and told us we didn't need a permit and it was ok to cut them down. You do need to check with the county before doing anything.

Checked with the county and was given the runaround and handed an application to fill out and bring back with money.Going to get a saw and cut the limbs as they become dangerous until it's gone which won't be long.
Jamie Scuderia is no longer there
