Boat will be high & dry in Englewood. I don't know much about Sea Tow. Which location would be best? Does anyone know if they all work together or will they only come out so far to help without charging extra? Thanks for your help and any other info you can provide.

A little more information, please. Are you wanting to move a boat or is it grounded? Sea Tow is an emergency towing service. If you want to move a boat, there are local towers or locals with open trailers that can do this.

We are in the process (almost complete) of buying an older boat. I think what we are looking for is a service for the boat kind of like AAA should we need gas or a tow due to problems in the future.

Edit: we will only be moving it a few miles closer to home on the ICW and we can do that by water.

I'm in Englewood. I have an emergency tow service with my boat insurance (Progressive). I've only had to use it once but that was on the ICW. The fuel gage on my boat was apparently broken so I had run out of gas. I know it is unlimited tows per year but I do not know if there is a distance restriction. The tow guy came out of Placida and I was stranded at Stump Pass so it was about a 40 minute cruise for him.

I was hoping to find out what the distance restrictions, etc. were for this type of thing.

I've been a Sea Tow member here for 8 years and used them twice. Once I was in my 26 WAC with what I thought was overheating of the I/O motor so I called to be towed in from the Boca Grande Pass to El Jobean at Gulf Coast Marine. Problem ended up being just a blown thermostat. The tow took 3 hours and would have been $900 for that time and distance but as a member, I paid nothing. I was sold.

My second experience was from just outside the canal system in PC to the same marina. Charge would have been $450 but I paid zero. I'm a big Sea Tow membership fan. Now that I have a small boat I cover my trailer as well.

I'm sure you'd be happy with their service and they'd service you well in, around and even off shore from Englewood.

Two words regarding Sea Tow if you own a boat: JOIN THEM.

Had to recently use their services as a non-member for towing a boat out of the muck. Oh my goodness was it expensive.

I called U S Boat and when they told me what the towing rate for their members was for over the distance you signed up for I almost fainted.

Old Gal, tell me about it.... The day I got stuck was one expensive as heck day. Lesson learned.

I don't own a boat (yet!), but am joining Sea Tow this summer after I finish up some boat safety & certification classes. I was told they offer a policy for folks who rent, like me.
