Because some people have no respect for their property or the value of their neighbors property. They park Big Foot in the front yard, have abandoned RV's, junk boats, storage trailers, junk covered with blue tarps etc. I don't want to look at all that junk. So I am willing to pay a few bucks a month to have an HOA tell the people when they get out of line.

The county has most of those rules as well. They are not enforced unless someone complains. And yes the results will be slower. It's nice that temporarily you can get away with a few infractions...just don't abuse it

I have an investment home in River Club and the monthly HOA fee $200, includes gated entry, landscaping trimming/lawn maintenance, cable and a club house with a pool and gym. I think the association does a very good job of maintaining the community and maintaining the property values by say.... not letting one of of the neighbors started a pig farm in his yard.

One of my other homes is in PGI, no HOA, but I can assure you the city ordinances and restrictions and their strict enforcement of them would make you believe your living in a HOA community.

I recently read a statistic that 44% of the homes in Florida are apart of an HOA.
