[quote=dtuba;48057198]The 1996 Telecommunications Act was the nail in the coffin for commercial radio. It used to be you couldn't own and operate more than one broadcast property in each market. Made things more interesting. Now you have broadcast groups owning every station in town and airing the same playlists and syndicated nonsense on all of them.

Who needs them anyway when you have non commercial and internet stations.[/QUOTE

Yes it was !!!!

Actually prior to the 1996 Telecommunications Act the writing was on the all. I worked for a small rock station in 1994 that was bought out by another radio station in the market. At first we were our own staff and nothing changed but by 1997 the company that owned us had bought up several other stations in our market and shut down one. Then came the layoffs.

What hours are you talking about? KABC has infomercials all day and afternoon into the early evening.

It's Sunday morning and it just came to me, AM radio NPR which I've had going for 2 hrs now...wait wait don't tell me segment now. Listening to Prarie Home Companion and honestly I forgot how funny some of this programming is....one can actually laugh.

I had listened to AM radio for some yrs but forgot about it while away in hospital/rehabs for a knee infection issue. Thank goodness it came back to me.

I refuse to listen to KFI jesus show on sundays....good grief. Then all days it's money mgmt garbage...

I miss the days of air america and rachel maddow, randi rhodes, and find johnny wendell some times. I was glued to Thom Hartmann for years but lost him lately.

I vote for more health related issues call in programs.
