Yesterday at around 1:00 pm our 5 y/o Chessie Sammie started acting very strangely. When I did a quick assessment on her I noticed that the mucus membranes in her mouth were almost white (this means blood loss and serious shock in a dog). I carried her immediately to the van and called the vet while I was driving. It didn't do any good. She arrested and passed away before we got to the vet's office. I agreed to a necropsy and found out this morning that she had a tumor on her spleen that no one knew about. A blood vessel in the tumor had started leaking and then burst. She had bled out within minutes. My Sammie was a beautiful, gentle, sweet girl. All she ever wanted was a warm bed, food to eat and loving hands to hold and comfort her when she was scared. She had been badly abused and starved by her former owners and must have had a horrific life before coming to us last year. Some of you might also remember that in October we had to put down our 15 1/2 y/o Choco Lab, Bandit. Now our little Sammie is gone too. Goodbye my darling girl. You touched our hearts while you were here with us. You were dearly loved and will not be forgotten.
Sammie may have had a rough time early in her life but she was one step from heaven in your care. It is too bad you are having to deal with yet another loss in so short a time.
i am so so sorry for your shocking loss...... she may have had a rough start, but she knew true love and safety and comfort and happiness in her time with you.....
Oh........................VAcat, I'm so sorry for your double losses. How very sad for you. Keep in mind that Sammie's last memories are of a wonderful home with you, food, warmth and love.
Oh man I am so sorry you lost Sammie. Sounds Sammie had a good life with you and you did a good thing for her by saving her. Treasure you memories with both your dogs. I'm sorry for both losses.
Thank you for sharing your love with Sammie. And of course, Bandit. Sammie left this world knowing that she was loved, and I don't think you could have given her a greater gift. She'll remember and be waiting for you, right along with Bandit. Take Care....**Virtual Hugs**
So very sorry for your loss. She had a good life w/your family, to erase the bad. In my belief system, she is running the great fields of the sky, happy, healthy, not fearful, with Bandit and lots of new friends. Just waiting to see you again some day. Peace.
