I know Durham gets bashed all the time because of certain pockets of troubled areas (which exist everywhere), and you hardly ever hear about how much of a wonderful place it is to live too, but this is proof that NO where is immune to crime.

Man in clown mask sought in Chapel Hill break-in :: WRAL.com

I say the next home these jokers break into should be their last, someone ought to put them out of their misery before the cops can thow them in jail to consume tax payers valuable resources and three squares a day.

Just my 2 cents

The problem with "putting someone out of their misery" in your house in NC is even if you kill them, the family can still sue in civil court, costing you mega $$ in legal fees even if you prevail. There was a new castle law that was up for vote that would prohibit civil lawsuits but was held up in committee by Debra Ross

Representative Deborah Ross - North Carolina House District 38

When asked why a short "the DA and police had problems with the bill". When I asked what problems, she told me to contact the DA and police directly. What she won't tell you in writing she will tell you in person, as others have met with her. It is a personal issue and she will never let it get out of committee. The only way to get this law passed is to get her out of office.

My life and the life of my family is worth all the money in the world. I shoot first ask questions later. If someone is in my house illegally, I feel bad for them.

I understand and I would bet many feel this way. It still wouldn't stop you from losing everything after the fact.

When we lived in Los Angeles in the 70's we were in the LAPD Neighborhood Watch which they called "Basic Car Plan".

When we asked about this topic, the answer was to be sure the rat falls inside your home when you put him down and all was fine.

That's how it ought to be.

I literally accidentally walked into a wrong house once. I was visiting my aunt and uncle who I haven't seen in years, and we walked into someone else's house. I'm sooooo glad he didn't shoot first and ask questions later.
