With our upcoming trip to Texas, we are getting a hankering for good barbecue. Two places interest us. One is Clayton's McCalls and the other is Olde Tyme Barbecue. Is McCalls buffet style only? Even if you are waited on, do they just pull from the buffet or will they get the food from the kitchen? We prefer not to eat from buffets, but want to try McCalls. Any feedback on Olde Tyme?

McCalls is a buffet. If you order from the menu, they do not get the bar-b-que from the buffet. It comes from the kitchen. I have never heard of a restaurant that fills orders from their buffet.....

I have had it happen to me. That was the last time I stepped inside a buffet style restaurant.

I've never really been impressed with Ole Time. I think Smithfield's is better, and that's from a drive thru. Clyde Cooper's is good. NC Barbecue Musings: Recommended - Clyde Cooper's, Raleigh

Do either of those places have Texas style BBQ (brisket)? I haven't been to either in a long time, but thought they had NC style BBQ.

We opt to pass on Cooper's. We did not find it very good. We still drive to Backyard BBQ on NC 55 south of I40 in Durham when we have the calling for Q..Haven't been to the Pit (hear it is great, but so was Cooper's said to be) so we cannot compare that to Backyard.

We haven't found a place that does Texas style.

Kansas City BBQ is my favorite. Texas is next and NC BBQ is my least favorite. I have had a hard time finding anything other than NC BBQ around here, so I make the best of what is offered.

Yep, I work walking distance from the Old tyme barbeque in Garner and you'd have to pay me to eat there. Oh how I miss the Mexican place that used to be in that location.
