I recently ate at Stella Mare Ristorante right on lead mine road in North Raleigh and I had one of the best meals for the price! The chicken plates, cheesy bread and appetizers were great! Any yet it only had two other customers while I sat there on the outdoor patio.

Any other hidden gems like this one in North Raleigh or downtown Raleigh?

Also, has anyone tried the SAVOY restaurant right next door in the same shopping center? Good ? Bad?

Gateway Restaurant - located in the Gateway Plaza at the intersection of Capital Blvd. & Crabtree Blvd.

Right where the red car that's parked in front of the building.

Spring Cafe - located on Spring Forest rd.

Right in the middle of this building.

If you like simple basics, there is a great little place on a down ramp from Capital Blvd, if it is still there. Can't remember the name or street to save my life. Going toward downtown, I think it's just past Fairview Road Exit. Take a down ramp & turn slight left, I think. Old plain looking place, but good food last time I was there. It's been a while though. May be closed now.

Are you referring to Finch's, at Capital and Peace?

That's it! Is it still as good as I remember? I used to eat there when I did jobs along Capital Blvd. Also used to eat at Don Murray's BBQ not far from there.

I don't know, I've never been. I drive by it every day, though.

However, my boss eats there all the time, so it must be good.

I love places like that. Sad that in today's world, they have a harder time competing & surviving.

BTW, anyone passing by Efland on I 85 South should stop by Missy's, a small burger/sandwich place just a stone's throw off the main road. Great food.

Anyone in Durham should check out the Sandwich King, near the old ball park. Was a pillar for years. Closed up, then someone bought it & reopened, serves much the same food the same way as the family use to. Plus, he has Brats. I came to love Brats when I visited Chicago some years ago.

In North Raleigh we like Pipers Taven and Poppyseed Market for casual, good food. Went to Irregardless downtown the other night, delicious but pricey. They don't serve beef though, only seafood and poultry.

Irregardless does serve beef. I've had some beautiful steaks there before. In fact, today's menu has a Grilled Rib Eye Pizzaiola and a Santa Fe Salad made with flank steak. (Dang it, now I'm hungry.)
