Deer sensors?
Does anyone know if those deer sensors you put on your car actually work? I remember seeing them in stores in NJ long ago - yesterday eve saw a beautiful deer eating by the side of the road (second time I saw this here) and I want to make sure I don't hit one.
I hit one in NJ once - not good...
Saw it on 751 driving back from Jordan Lake, which was incredibly lovely all around.

Due to the drought, the deer are out in the fields and yards eating. This time of year they are not scared by much. Best bet is to keep your eyes open & drive careful!

you could go to sporting good store and buy a 4oz bottle of Fox urine mix it with one gallon bucket of water and wash your car in it and see if that works.

Um maybe I'll just take my chances. My car is still covered in lovebugs from my last FL trip, maybe that'll work...

That was quite funny. But I am concerned about hitting a dear and ruining my SUV and possibly dying in the incident. I had never seen real live dear before I moved here in Jan.

They don't work.
Be especially wary during rutting season, Oct/Nov. I was driving 45mph down Gorman towards 40 early last November and a very healthy male sprinted across 4 lanes and took a header into my door right at my hip, then his rump smacked into the rear door. A week to the day later, I barely clipped another one right off Cary Pkway, didn't do any damage.

Now I am not saying this isn't something to be watchful of and isn't serious...but come on.....compared to how many dead deer you see along side of the road how many times on the news do you hear of someone dying because of it?
Not saying it has never happened....but statistically....you have other things to worry about before this.....especially in an SUV.

I always heard that the fatalities occur when the driver swerves to avoid the deer and ends up hitting a tree or swerving into on-coming traffic instead of just hitting the deer. I think it would be better to just stay in your traffic lane and take your chances with the deer.

Nope
I agree those things don't work.
Deer can do some pretty dumb things, so it pays to be careful. Driving slower, especially at night, can save your life. I'm not always really good at this myself, but it is still good advice.
And I agree with mm34b. Hitting a deer is bad. Hitting a tree is usually worse.
