I'm in need of a dress to wear for a 2nd chance prom. Being a singer, I have a gown hanging in my closet, but it's a bit "mature" for a prom. (I don't want to look like the mother of the bride!) Most of the dresses I've seen are either frumpy, mother-of-the-bride dresses or strapless high school prom dresses. There has to be something out there for us 40-somethings who don't have a stick figure anymore!

Anyone know of a good consignment store in the area that might have a classy formal gown for not a lot of money?

THere's a consignment store in Cary over at High House and Maynard in the shopping center withLa Farm and Bruegger's. I have heard it's mostly designer stuff--maybe you'll find something there?!

Nordstrom Rack might not be a bad place to check--lower prices and they have a decent selection of formalwear.

you might try around again consignment in raleigh on millbrook. i went with a friend a couple of years ago when she was looking for a bridesmaid dress. they carry all sorts of things & i recall there was a selection, at least, of formal gowns. i have no idea what they have now but you could give it a whirl.
