Hi everybody,
I was wondering if there is anybody who would be willing to rent their car to a German Duke student for two weeks around Christmas time. There will be a financial compensation of course. Renting a car from enterprise or any company like that is just very expensive, so I was hoping that somebody has a spare car and would be happy to make some money with it.

Thanks,
Chiana

There are huge liability issues at stake here. I doubt you will get any takers.

I think the liability issue will be the deal breaker for most people.

Yea sure no problem you can borrow my credit card and dog as well.

In all seriousness anyone with half a brain would know this is a bad idea. The best thing to do it ask a family member, take a train or bus.

Guten tag, Chiana. You posted the same question in the Charlotte forum about a year ago. Was your trip delayed?

As several people have pointed out, the liability issues make "borrowing a car" impossible. What would happen if you have an accident and killed somebody as you were driving someone else's car? We're a lawsuit-happy society... If you need a car for just a few hours, you could rent one from zipcar.com.

Have you looked into Zip Cars?
Car Sharing, an alternative to car rental and car ownership – Zipcar

They are a rent as you need (for an hour, day, week, etc).
Not sure how close by they are to where you are? Or if the price would be any better than a regular rental, but it may be an option.

Check Craigslist, hotwire.com and rentals.com. On CL, I see ppl offering rentals cheap.

I need a car myself and it's been hard getting around. Even though, I know it's a risky and bad ideal; ask Judge Judy what to do.
