Has anyone in the triangle noticed any increase of home owner insurance rates from 2009 to 2010? State farm increased 100+ dollars from last year.

The reason "coastal communities are under insured and the rest of us are now making up for it" is exactly when I was told.

Should I believe this or time to shop around?

Thanks.

Yes, there was a thread or 2 about this.

I jumped ship from State Farm to Erie. My HO insurance went from $857 down to $440!

Wow, who's your agent? I wonder if Erie will do multiple homes, motorcycles, and several cars plus umbrella....

From $650 to $819 at State Farm.
Ouch.

Might be time to shop, but I have a nice auto discount due to multi-lines, and don't really want to move the auto policy.

Almost identical amounts for me too, only Nationwide to Erie.

If anyone wants my agents info, just DM me.

Thx

Frank

Ouch is right.. $819?!? My State Farm coverage went from ~$350 to ~$440 and I was plenty po'd. I did a bit of shopping around but wasn't able to beat it in the limited time I had so I wound up just paying it. Next year I will really shop both my home and auto around.

I also jumped ship just last week but from State Farm to Amica. My State Farm HO insurance went from $600 to $890 (new 2010 increase). Amica was only $460 with the same $1000 deductible. I feel State Farm is going to lose a lot of customers due to this year's unjustified increase.

It's seemingly somewhat of a racket IMO. I think they realize when you get comfortable and then keep trying new increases out to see how people respond. I jumped ship after many years with USAA (nobody could touch their rates until a few years ago) and afterward, they went with the heavy sales tactics offering to lower prices to get me back. Why not just offer the lowest price to me up front instead of making me look around?

My Allstate bill also went up $100 year-to-year. Glad it wasn't just me.
