Looking for information about life in Clayton. Entertaining any/all feedback about lifestyle and people living in the area. Transplant population? Commuters? Education level/Socioeconomic status of residents? Conservative vs. progressive? Predominant religious prefences in the area? Cultural diversity? Amenities/entertainment/shopping? Future growth? I have heard it described as "rural" and "small town feel" but would like more information. Have you relocated there from another ("nonrural") part of the country and has it been a good fit for you? How would you describe lifestyle/people of Clayton vs say North Raleigh or Apex/Holly Springs/Cary?

We have a Clayton mailing address south of Flowers Plantation. Location seems to be easy commute to most places. Some are longer than others. There are quite a few communities in the $300K range. Depending on what you want in the way of housing and community amenities. Glen Laurel has a golf course. There is Riverwood, also has a course, recreation center and some retail shops in the community. NC 42 between US 70 business and NC 39 has a slew of developments. Also NC 42 going west is built up with housing.
Being it is NC there are churches and there are churches. There is no ONE religious group / sect.
Many transplants from the NE and other areas of NC as well. Economics are across the spectrum ranging from barely making it towards those with more than they will ever spend in 3 lifetimes. Most folks are in the middle somewhere. Newer developments are build with North Country transplants in mind--HUGE 2500 sq ft PLUS McMansions, some are gated to keep someone out--not sure who they are hiding from?
Major retail shopping is in two areas--along Business US 70 between NC 42 and Shotwell and the other area is at the I 40 / NC 42 crossroads. Both have Sprawl-Marts. This (40/42) is where the majority of growth will probably happen in Clayton. The Cleveland area (40/42) is at the top of most folks lists who relocate here. Downtown Clayton also has shops and several great resturants as well as a bar / resturant. Also a short drive up US 70 is White Oaks that has many big box stores like Best Buy, Dicks' Target, and almost all the fast food places. Also has a Movie Theater.
It is small town in many ways and it's a good thing I think. Most folks are wonderful. We are from the Detriot MI area and absolutely love the area. We are not in a $300K neighborhood however and think our 1.25 acres and double wide modular are just swell. I imagine being in a $300K community might offer a very different view of Clayton, but that could be construed positively or negatively...
