Once again Accuweather's Joe Bastardi has predicted a possible winter storm for next week. What do you guys think will happen? Do you think we'll get anything? If we do, will it be ice or snow? I know you are probably all tired of these threads, but I just think it's interesting to hear everybody's input and see how it actually plays out.

Here's the article:

The Weather Channel is showing a similar forecast

As usual, the setup for snow, sleet and freezing rain in the South requires a delicate balance of having enough cold air in place, the track of low pressure and moisture availability. Since it takes the perfect marriage of the above mentioned factors, there is usually a huge amount of uncertainty when looking at potential winter storms several days away.

Another source I've enjoyed reading is Allen Huffman.

"Meteorologist Allan Huffman has 10 years of experience in weather forecasting and modeling with a Master's Degree in meteorology from NC State University. His interests include tropical cyclones, winter storms, severe weather and temperature extremes."

Raleigh Weather Examiner - Weather & Climate | Examiner.com
His note about next week -
"Some snow possible on the coast Saturday night, wintry mess possible Mon/Tues..."

I'm hoping for a sleet storm. That stuff lasts and it's awesome to sled on.

When a storm does hit, how well are the roads taken care of? Do most people have awd or 4wd?

A salty mixture is spread by the 50 trucks the city has, everyone buys milk and bread, and then the city closes down.

Generally, people don't choose their cars with the idea of how well they'll perform in snow.
