Hi all. Hoping to settle in SW Durham and ideally work in downtown Durham. I'm in advertising and I know thtere are also quite a few ad agencies in Raleigh. If by chance my work happened to be in Raleigh would it be a bad commute/approx how long from SW Durham to and from everyday? I've heard if you work in Raleigh you should live in Raleigh, and if you work in Durham live in Durham. How true is this?
There are lots of people coming to RTP from all the local cities and towns. If you have to go through RTP, then you may find traffic heavy until you get through, but then smooth sailing after (in the mornings). If you were doing Raleigh to Durham, that might be a problem as there is a lot of morning traffic that way. The other way, it may not be so bad. I have a friend driving Chapel Hill to Raleigh every morning on I-40 and it isn't that bad to him.
Between 30 minutes to an hour depending on various factors such as time of day, road work, exactly where in DT Raleigh etc. I'd guess on average 45 minutes.
Depends where you are living and where you are going. I'd consider Streets at Southpoint as "SW Durham". It has very easy access to I-40 and is a straight shot to downtown Raleigh. Only about 22 miles or maybe 30 minutes driving.
Southpoint to DT Ral = 25-30 mins normally or 40-50 mins during rush hour.
I live 1/2 mile from Southpoint and have made that drive a various times of day many times.
The worst part is 40 east btwn the airport exits and the Wade Ave split. After that, it picks up a bit.
fyi,
Mike
