13 years and its finally died. Can anyone recommend someone they have actually used? Our water heater is in our attic so its not an easy job!! Thanks!!
1-Only call a licensed plumber
2-Verify current liability and worker's comp insurances
3-Demand that the work be permitted and inspected by your municipality
4-Require that an overflow pan be installed and piped outside the building envelope- If a drain line is already there, have it blown out with a nitrogen cartridge or compressed air
5-Only allow a STATE brand of water heater to be installed- Great waranty, great customer service after the sale (also made in NC)
6-Current code requires an expansion tank, make sure that you have one installed unless it is already in place
7-To save a future trip charge, have a Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV) installed and a "whole house water shut off valve" installed if you don't already have one- (Some municipalities are already mandating these devices)
8-Depending on the size of the heater, the location, the fuel source, and any additional piping, budget $1,000 to $1,300 in most cases
If you'd like a list of the licensed plumbers we use in our construction company for these services, send a direct message and our office would be pleased to provide this information.
Wow...thanks! I called R&S even before reading your responses! I feel better that I made the right call! Roman is coming out this afternoon to see if this water heater can be saved or not!
