I live in Holly Springs and am looking for a local recommendation.
When it rains there is a small portion of my carpet that gets damp. I'm not sure where the leak is coming from. What type of person would I call (a "general" carpenter??).
J. Trent Hicks on the forum here is a roof expert. Ark Roofing is another good company that specializes in small repairs.
If you have wet carpet, I assume you have ceiling damage to the sheetrock? Or is this carpet sitting up in the attic?
Its about a 6 inch by 6 inch square on the first floor next to the fireplace. I almost think that the aluminum cap over the chimney may be leaking and the water is running down the inside of the wall till it gets to the bottom. But I don't do heights so I'm not going up a ladder!
No sheetrock damage (that I can see), just dampness on the carpet.
It might be that your flashing around the chimney was installed incorrectly. I just bought a foreclosure with that same problem. They put flashing under the roof shingles and then nailed shingles over the flashing (which created holes). I've heard good things about Ark Roofing also.
When I look up at the chimney, it seems that a corner of the aluminum flashing is sticking out a bit, and it's on the side of the chimney with the leak, so that may be it. Here's to hoping it's a quick, easy fix (although that is NEVER the case with my luck).
Ark will do a good job for you - they've fixed a few things for me at a very reasonable price. They also were were honest when it wasn't worth fixing the roof when the whole thing really needed to be replaced (and they don't do whole roof replacements, so they lost business by being honest).
