Hi,

Relocating from CA this summer to somewhere in the triangle area. Have 3 small children so schools and family community are very important. We visited in last month and LOVE Chapel Hill and Hillsborough areas. Haven't ruled out areas in Wake County though, but the growth scares me with the issues surrounding the schools.

Anyways, just wondering how much renters insurance costs out there as well as home insurance, car insurance etc? I guess if anyone has relocated from CA out to NC, maybe they would be able to give me an idea on what to expect. I have contacted my car insurance co to give me a quote so just waiting back on that.

But do want to figure in renter's insurance as we will be renting for a few years.

Thanks so much!!!
Michelle

p.s. is Chapel Hill worth the price??

Renters insurance is usually pretty cheap and it's based on the amount that you want to insure ...I have no figures for you but I'm sure someone will chime in.

Good luck.

That really has to be judged on an individual basis depending on your particular priorities and values.

I don't have a ton of stuff (well.. not a ton of expensive stuff!), so my renter's insurance covers $20,000 of belongings (the lowest option) for about $100 a year.

I don't think CH has more expensive insurance than anywhere else. Now property tax is another thing.
I personally think CH is worth it. And a lot of others here seem to agree. We looked in Cary and other Wake County areas but the uncertainty in the schools drove us away and right into Chapel Hill.
