I think that the article in your link is refuting the myth that Hodgson "invented" IPAs for shipment to India. Neither Bmateo nor I were saying that IPAs were invented for this purpose, merely that IPAs were heavily hopped ales that were brewed in England and shipped to India.

Oh. . . .by the way. . . . best thread of the week so far. Much better than all of the "I'm moving to Raleigh with my 2 kids and dog. What is the best neighborhood" threads.

Well, I guess I should report back - I wound up getting King Fisher and Taj Mahal at Total Wine in Crossroads. I didn't have time to call around to Indian grocers, but do want to explore more later. I don't think my British friend is a beer connoisseur, but rather just loves Indian curries & Indian beer. He lives in a remote area with no Indian anything for at least 80 miles, so I'm doing him a bit of a favor.

Oh and I also went to Mithai House of Indian Desserts this evening and picked up some assorted sweets. I snuck a piece tonight and it was quite delicious. Hopefully this will be a nice surprise! :-)
