I just moved from Harnett to Wake County. I paid my taxes to Harnett over the phone. But the taxes were due to Wake. Is there a fine for paying vehicle taxes late?

I would think since the vehicle tax is done through the DMV it wouldn't really matter which office you sent it to.

I think the tax rates and account numbers are different. I was listening to Bob and the Showgram and Bob said a sheriff puts a late notice on the car and will tow it. I hope that's not true!

There is a small interest fee, but not a set fee no. Infact, your bill will show what the due amount will be if you do not pay within the time frame listed on the bill.

You can pay online @ https://services.wakegov.com/ptax/secure/

I think they're more likely to block your registration first

It's not true. I've done financial counseling for people who are 10+ years behind on their VEHICLE taxes. Property taxes are different.

There is a small penalty for late payment and your registration is blocked until you pay.

If it goes on way too long, the county can take collection action.

I was late paying vehicle taxes in Durham County. The County sent a notice that the Sherriff would tow the car, impound it and auction it off after a certian date if I didnt pay. I didnt wait to find out if it is an idol threat or not!!

The Sherriff showed up at my apartment a few years ago in Durham to collect the taxes on my car or tow. My wife said she would call me and have me pay it over the phone. The Sherriff left and said he would come back the next day. Boy I paid those taxes quick! It was over $300 on a BMW I owned. They have never showed up for my $45 bill on an old Explorer that I didn't find out that I owed taxes on until I went to register the truck.
