I like Europe a lot (visiting), but I really miss "my" Triangle (West Raleigh, Cary, Chapel). If I ever come back, I am buying a house in Meadowmont, getting a Masters at UNC and will be a regular fixture at Weaver Street Market.

You sound seriously homesick! What's going on in Europe? How long have you been there? Do you think you've given it enough time?

Do you speak French? Are you having a time communicating there? It might help to find fellow Yanks to some spend time with until you integrate. You have to be careful not to isolate yourself with all Yanks otherwise you will be constantly homesick and not give the new place a chance. Why not make the best of it and do some train travel to other countries. You'll have some cool memories to share in the future

Why does it matter if he speaks French?

He's in Antwerp, which is in the Flemmish section of Belgium. They speak a dialect of Dutch there. And besides, Antwerp is a very touristy city and LOTS of people speak English.

I, for one, would LOVE to live in Antwerp for a few months. I visited there for only a day back in 2004 and found it to be a beautiful city with lots to offer. I would hop in the car or on a bike and explore at every chance I had.

See you also posted in the Portland, OR forum. Good luck getting back to either NC or OR. Both have some wonderful things about them.

I speak Dutch (Flemish), which is definitely the local language. The English is good here too. Its not a bad place or anything, its just I'm southern and I miss some things. My kid seems to prefer Dutch to English, though we just moved here last year. I miss Crabtree, and Cameron Village, and Weaver Street, and my folksy southern way doesn't really click here ...I'll get over it....
