My husband is being transferred to the Raleigh area by this summer. I am currently a Medical Assistant but am not certified. Does anyone know if certifcation is needed here? Or just preferred? How is the job outlook for an MA? I have emailed an employment agency but also thought I would ask here.

Thanks for any information you can pass along.

Amber

I know it is definitely preferred. Not sure if it is required. I knew a girl in my CNA class last year who didn't need to be certified in TX, but when she moved to NC she couldn't find a job. So she planned on working as a CNA to get her hours in to apply to a PA program. I do know that there are many schools now offering CMA programs and it's getting pretty saturated.

Here's a good resource. Medical Assisting - Wake Technical Community College You will find the big players here...UNC, Duke and possibly Wake Med, will require specific certification. Doctors offices and the rest mostly have less stringent requirements.

I've also heard that the diploma program from some Florida schools isn't accepted here by the big players as it's the wrong certification.
