Noticed tonight that the speed limit on the Wade Avenue Extension connecting 40 and 440 has been raised from 55 MPH to 60 MPH. Haven't seen an official announcement, but unless I've been sleepwalking through my driving it must have happened in just the past couple of days.
That section has long been a speed trap, so will be interesting to see how the bump affects driver behavior and police enforcement.
Wow! That's great news! I try hard to stay under 65 on that road but it's tough. I'll have to check the signs tomorrow as I did not notice they changed today.
Wowee -- a whole 5mph? Whatever will we do with the extra time THAT will buy us? LOL
Seriously, why is this road not 65mph...at least on the side heading out of town toward RTP?
I thought that state law required a maximum of only 55 because of the driveway into the RBC Center parking lot on the south side, but I guess I was wrong about that.
Not sure about having different limits for the two sides...that's not too common in my experience. For the most part it's wide open enough to be 65, although I guess it's a nice transition between the 65 of I-40 and the 55 and 60 of I-440.
5 mph should make a helpful difference, or at least I hope so. I've sometimes felt like I'm getting in the way going 60 in the right lane along there as I watch for the frequent speed traps, so now I'll feel comfortable bumping up to 65 and hopefully there will be less variation in speeds between the limit obeyers (and almost obeyers) and those who have treated it as a full-on 70-75 mph road.
Good, one step closer to getting to 80mph where the speed LIMIT should be
