My husband and I are educator living in over priced south florida. We are two people with master's degrees who cannot afford a house, therefore we have been researching Wake co. I am a guidance counselor and my husband is a Math teacher working on his admin cert.

Anyone have any experience with Wake Co hiring? How are the job fairs?

Clients of mine moved down from PA without jobs similiar to your situation because of the cost of living. One who was an elementary teacher in PA received a job here without any problem. She was interested in two elementary schools because they were in close proximity to their new home and she received a job in one of them no problem. I know she didn't attend the job fair and still was able to find a job.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Default Research, narrow focus to schools that appeal to you

My husband did TONS of research before we sought and obtained our teaching positions in Wake County. We made a list of features we wanted in a school and searched based on our criteria.

Anyway, by narrowing the field to about six schools we considered very desirable, we were able to scan the job listings and apply for the specific jobs at the schools we wanted. I wouldn't move from one state to another for just any old job. It had to be the RIGHT one. Fortunately, within six months we both landed the positions we wanted.

In terms of salary, we make more here than in our previous positions. It depends on where you are used to teaching and living. NC pays an extra 10% for masters degrees and an extra 12% for National Board Certification. Wake County pays a supplement on top of the state scale; I think it's 14.25%. Find the pay scale at Wake County Public School System. As a two-teacher family, we're fine financially.

Good luck!
If you want to PM me, I would be glad to offer additional information.
