In doing my "homework" I have heard that North Raleigh is a good place for us to be looking for a home. Can someone tell me the name of subdivisions which are best, in the price range under $250k for a 3-4 bedroom home? Very concerned about good schools, but I understand what is involved with that.
I used to live in Dominion Park off Leesville Rd. and really liked it there. Be forewarned though, it's right under the RDU flight path. Woodlawn & Harrington Grove are also in that area with many houses in your price point.
Yes, North Raleigh is a huge amount of ground (most of Raleigh's square mileage would be considered "North Raleigh"). When you say you "did your research", what things did you find that made you pick N Raleigh in particular. Did you come across any neighborhoods in your research? There isn't really any such thing as "best" neighborhoods, since everyone's criteria is different.

From Word of mouth, reading online, etc., I have come to the conclusion that IF you choose Raleigh specifically, "North Raleigh" is where you want to be (that is, for what we are looking for). We have been told to focus on Cary, Holly Springs, Apex, and possibly "North Raleigh" so I guess I'm trying to do further "homework" to determine what some local/native folks' idea is of what that exactly is.
North Raleigh covers a large swath of area. Give us an idea of what you'd like to be close to (your work, shopping malls, parks, Falls Lake, etc).
Thanks, EvaofNC. We are looking for a family-friendly neighborhood with good schools, 200+ square foot house, under $250k. Work is located near 1/64 and Tryon Road in Cary.

Maybe I'm being dense but I can't see any reason to live in North Raleigh when you will be commuting to south Cary every day. I think your other suggestions of Cary, Apex, and Holly Springs make a lot more sense, depending on how far you want to be from the city.
Yes commuting from North Raleigh to that part of Cary would suck. I would check out eastern and central Cary, Apex, Holly Springs, or maybe even Morrisville.
Google map doesn't tell the whole story.
You need to do that commute at rush hour.
I avoid it as much as possible at that time.
