The decision by growing tech company Citrix System to place its Raleigh headquarters in the city's warehouse district could have a transformational effect on the area, which developers have long eyed as ripe for a boom.
I wonder where they're moving the train station to then. My understanding is it was supposed to go in the old Dillon buildings.
They were supposed to. I inspected those buildings about 7 years ago for the purpose to be used for the train station. Guess that fell through? They were in bad shape back then, in the one section the roof was completely gone. It's going to be interesting to see Citrix renovate them to what they are showing in their plans. It's also going to be interesting to see if this prompts more warehouse conversions, or if it will bring more demolitions to make way for condos for the new employees.
Yep, you are correct, these are the specific buildings I inspected when they wanted them checked for asbestos before moving forward with plans for the train station.
The Union Station project is still happening - these are two different buildings (Dillon had several). In fact, the city was recently awarded a Tiger Grant specifically for the purpose of developing the train station.
TTA has apparently owned most of those warehouse buildings for some time. Nearly all of S. West St. is warehouses from Morgan to Martin, so there are quite a few buildings to go around!
