My wife and I are hoping to rent a home at the Carolina Preserves in early 2013 for 2-3 Months with the potential of buying there. Your input is greatly appreciated. GeorgeO

It sounds like a great plan for you to rent first, and see whether you would really like living in an active adult community.

However, there are only a handful of resale listings in Carolina Preserve currently on Realtor.com and zillow.com. There are no rentals advertised. I'd suggest contacting each Realtor with a listing, and see if any of the sellers would be interested in a short-term rental. Otherwise, I'd check Craigslist, and maybe post an "rental wanted" ad. There has been a house for rent at $2000/month, but the owner is also listing it for sale at $419,000, so I'm not sure they are open to a short-term rental.

CP is not like some golf-resort communites where there are plenty of short-term rentals. It seems to have a high demand for houses, and low supply.

If you are completely new to Cary or North Carolina, there are plenty of short-term rental apartments, if you just want to test the climate and the attractions of Cary.

There are some snowbirds over there. You might want to check in at the clubhouse at CP and see if they can help you. Of course this will only work if you want to rent in the spring when they go back north.

VERY few rentals for less than a 12 month lease in CP. Not too many resales, either. We tried to get a nine month lease and were turned away. Also, don't expect to bring any pets.

I believe there is a lease restriction in the by-laws regarding short-term leases. I think it is best to go thru a realtor. When I was thinking about renting I emailed an owner on one of the realty websites and they never responded. I have not see rentals at CP on Craigslist. I'm happy to recommend my realtor who is fantastic!
