Hello...yet another posting from me ...My hubby and I did visit Raleigh..long story but we did not get to see every neighborhood in Raleigh. But Brier creek seemed nice. But a quick impression does not always tell you everything...sooo...for ppl who live there and know it well...I know some pros are lots of apartments and lots of stores and restaurants....any other pros or cons we should know about? include crime...I know we can google that but I feel like you get the real deal from ppl...not statistic websites.
Brier Creek area is lovely - I cannot speak to the crime but I do know the traffic in/around can get crazy on weekends especially in December.
Something to watch for -- there are areas of 'brier creek' that are actually in Durham County rather than Wake County. Not sure if that makes a difference to you, but it affects tax rate and it affects school assignment and services offered.
You cannot always tell based on the address as I found out that there is a difference between the postal address (could be a raleigh address) and the services you get (could be durham county). There is another thread in city data where it was explained to me if you search for it.
Six Forks is a very long road so it depends what section you're talking about. Also non-existent public transportation over there, especially once you get past 540.
Generally speaking any neighborhood right off of Six Forks is going to be anywhere from decent/acceptable to awesome. While I'm sure there are anomalies you can pretty much bank on that statement. Depending on where you're looking public transportation is either irrelevant or reduced to a generally okay bus service. If you're looking near North Hills you'll be able to walk to most everything you'll need, further north not necessarily as much.
And for the record, I love Brier Creek. If I was looking to rent an apartment somewhere and wasn't hung up on being in a trendy location (which I never am) that's where I'd head. It's convenient to everything, has a wide range of retail offerings and provides sidewalks for walking, running, etc. There's a young, professional energetic sort of vibe evident in the people that live there despite the fact that not everyone is young. There's always foot traffic in decent weather which is unusual for any area of Raleigh outside of downtown and planned community sites.
One of the things we like best about BC is the location. Not more than 30 minutes to any part of Raleigh, Durham, Cary, Chapel Hill, Morrisville, Apex, Jordan Lake, Falls Lake, Wake Forest and areas we have yet to discover.
And within ten minutes, we really have everything we need (except a reasonably priced seafood market. Whole Foods/Earth Fare don't count because of the high cost. But within 20 minutes, we've got several choices for the fresh seafood that we've been enjoying since our relocation from the AZ Desert last June.)
