Does anyone know of any campgrounds in the Durham area that allow tents? All the ones I've seen online only allow RVs.

I've only personally camped at Jordan, which was nice, but I've never heard anything bad about any of them. Eno River only has a few camp sites, so that would be nice to try in the off season. Umstead or Eno River are probably closest if you are looking to camp as a place to stay while touring the city.

Lake Michie also has a small campground. I believe you get the permit to camp there through the Durham Parks and Recreation office in Downtown Durham.

The camping at Eno is hike-in only. It is about 1 mile from the parking area to the campsites. The Shinleaf area at Falls Lake is also hike-in camping only. This could be a major inconvenience if you arrive with a lot of heavy gear!
