I would not install landscape fabric. Blocks weeds? Umm, you'll have several inches of soil on top of it for the weeks to grow in. What it will stop are the roots of your plants from going deeper into the soil.

I have used the landscape fabric before and for some reason it didn't block the weeds as well. I got the big rolls of it from Costco. I'm not sure of another variety would work better.

I also don't read the physical paper, but I asked my neighbors for their newspaper out of the recycle bins and got plenty. Used paper shopping bags also work. Layer them pretty thickly.
