Hello,

My husband, two year old daughter, and I will be relocating to the Triangle area this fall. My husband will be working at Durham Regional Hospital and so we'd like to try to find a rental property in Durham/Carrboro/Chapel Hill.

We just got back from a week long, first time visit to the area. The Carrboro/Chapel Hill area felt most like "home" to us, as we lived in Cambridge, MA for 12 years prior to San Francisco. Once we got out west we spent three years in the city of SF, and this past year we moved to Mill Valley in Marin County. I am a stay at home mom and we'd like to be in an area that's very safe, with young families and a sense of community. We'll be looking for a 3 bedroom rental home, preferably with a yard, but could adjust to having a deck or smaller outdoor space for 1 - 2 years. As for budget, we'd like to keep it in the $1500-$2300 range. If we like the area we'll plan to buy within a year, so we'd rather not waste too much money on rent. A pool community would be a big plus!

We saw some nice places in Southern Village and Meadowmont last week. Any other suggestions? Since my daughter is not yet in school, we'd really love to hear about some Durham options that fit this criteria.

Also, my husband would like to keep his commute to under 30 minutes. (Including traffic.) His hours will be 7 am to 5 pm.

I appreciate any tips or advice!!

Thank you!!

Your budget should not be a problem in Chapel Hill. Have you contacted a realtor?I think anywhere in Chapel Hill would get DH to work on time but North Chapel HIll communities will put you very close to I 40 and it only takes 20 minutes or so to get to the hospital. Good luck.

Welcome to the area! We moved here (west Cary- commute to Duke) 1.5 years ago after living in the Bay Area (San Carlos/Redwood Shores). We love the "easy" commutes compared to SF, very affordable, family oriented, outdoor activities here.

I agree with previous poster, north Chapel Hill will be a better commute to Durham Regional. Also, Southpoint area in Durham would be a similar commute to Durham Regional. However, since you will have to eventually be in the school system, traditional CH schools have a better reputation than Durham schools.
