Just wondering if anyone out there has any recommendations for a Big Band/Swing type band plus a reasonable venue for 30-50 people centrally located in Raleigh with good parking? Trying to plan for a 90th birthday afternoon party in early Dec for young at heart attendees that will be dancing and beer/wine can also be served. Thanks for any tips/suggestions!

Actually, I can't remember the name of the band, but I saw one lately that might be able to fill the bill. They played at a Carolina Meadows ice cream social this month that I went to with my elderly Mom. They weren't a big band — just a female singer and stand up bass and guitar — but they did a lot of standards that the older folks enjoyed and I thought they sounded really good. Sorry I can't pull the name up. You could call out there and ask: Retirement Community | CCRC | North Carolina | Chapel Hill | 27517 | Carolina Meadows .

You might also want to contact the Durham Community Concert Band. Durham Community Concert Band

They are an outrageously fine group of musicians and many of them play in small ensembles. Tom Shafer, their director, could hook you up.

The Franklin Street Jazz band might be similar to what you are looking for. The Triangle Jazz Orchestra is probably just like what you want, but with that many people in the band I would imagine it's expensive.
