So my wife and I bought a house that came with a fireplace. The previous owner didn't know much about it and via research I think it's a Heatilator wood-burning fireplace. Since the previous owner didn't use the fireplace, I'm thinking it needs to be looked at, make sure there's no obstructions in the chimney, etc. Anybody know a good outfit to do this sort of thing?

Chimney Sweeps are not regulated by the state and as such just about anyone can claim to be one. Many are incompetent and others (unfortunately) are just plain dishonest. A good sweep will clean the chimney and then use a camera to check for any defects. I would strongly recommend that you find someone who is a member of the Chimney Sweep Guild.

I have used Robbie with Chimney Sweep-Fireplace Service - Raleigh - Durham NC - Mr. Smokestack in the past and have been very happy. Knew what he was talking about and did not try to upsell me on things.

We have used Flue and Flame out of Cary for several years now (919) 678-0088. We tried a few others but were not satisfied.

We just used Mr. Smokestack and he was AWESOME. His customers service is superb. And the Irish accent is fun, too ;-). Robbie doesn't personally come out, but his customer service shines through and he has trained his workers very well.

We've tried a whole bunch of them and this person seemed to know more about what he was doing, and did an extremely neat job.

He and his wife worked together.

I remember one guy actually climbed up on the roof and that worried me. These people did it all from inside. I will call them again for sure.

They do pressure washing and chimney cleaning.

Robbie (Mr. Smokestack) just expanded his service area to include Wilson after I asked about it, and we are really pleased with the work his people did and the professionalism they maintained. Highly recommend.

Bumping an old thread.

How much should I expect to pay for cleaning? We have wood burning fireplace with a single chimney, we have never used it nor plan to.

I suspect a bird nest in there so need it cleaned more so for that.
