Morning all,

Looking to get an idea of the monthly cost (or quarterly ifbilled that way) to live in Apex or NC in general.

I know what I would be looking at as far as themortgage/rent cost and property tax, but am more interested in hearing what thecost of the following are:

  • [Car Insurance[
  • Homeowner Insurance[]
  • Water/Sewer[
  • Electric[
  • Gas or Oil (if applicable)[
  • Cable TV[
  • Homeowners/Neighborhood Associations[
[As always, thanks for your time![/

Really subjective.

Car Insurance and Homeowner's Insurance will vary greatly depending on the value of your car and housing.

Neighborhood Associations also vary widely. Could be anything from $150 A YEAR to $300 a month depeding on whether you live in a detached home or a townhouse of if your neighborhood has a pool clubhouse or not.

This post is a little dated, but people shared their average utility bill information whcih can give you a general idea of the ranges.

An example of yearly utility expenses for a 1,500 sq/ft North Raleigh area home

My town of Apex bills includes electric, water/sewer, recycling/trash and yard waste (basically everything but heat and hot water). Highest bill was 143 for July when the ac was running all month. Lowest was ~87. The gas bill is heating and hot water and the highest was February (first month in the house) ~75. March was 55, have not used heat since and it has been between 16-19$. This is for a 1200sq ft house. My cable bill is about 70, but I have some extra sports channels and did not get the chance for any bundle deals

As North_Raleigh_Guy stated, this will vary with house size, value, etc., but here is the breakdown of my usage:

• Car Insurance: $186 for a six month premium through Progressive. My 2004 car is paid off and I carry the minimum amount of insurance, plus uninsured motorist.

• Homeowner's Insurance: $553 annually through USAA. This is for a 1,280 SqFt townhome assessed through the insurance company for $122k.

• Water/Sewer/Electric/Recycling: This is all bundled through the Town of Apex. $120-$150 a month. My bill doesn’t vary that much month to month and is only slightly higher in the summertime with the AC running. I like it warm, so I keep the temperature set to ~78 degrees when the A/C is running.

• Gas or Oil (if applicable): My home only utilizes gas for heat, so during the warm months, I pay a $10 fee to keep service turned on. During the winter, the bill ranges from $50-$80 a month, depending on how cold it is. I keep the house at around 68 degrees during the day while I am not home and at night, and 72-74 degrees when I am at home during the evenings before bed.

• Cable TV: $110 (basic cable – 1 DVR, 1 Box, one direct line in connection, plus Standard TWC Road Runner internet).

• Homeowners/Neighborhood Associations: $110 a month.

• Property Taxes: ~$1,260 annually; Wake County assessed the property at $141k (yeah, right!).

Hope this helps!
