so my husband and i moved to raleigh on a whim
last year, we currently live in an apartment by crabtree mall. our lease is up in a few month so we're looking to settle into a house by then. we found one we loveeee in garner-in the Camelot neighborhood. our realtor said the house is a good investment, but im not 100% sold on the area. any input on it? we're in our early 20s so being close but not to close to downtown is a big draw for us

Funny you mention this because we passed on a home on the Raleigh-Garner border and ended up in Holly springs less than a month ago. The house was GORGEOUS, over an acre and great price for all that. My realtor basically said the jury was still out on whether the area would ever become the next big thing.
That is not why I decided against it. Going to and from the subdivision was not a "scenic" ride; felt run down.
That's just one of my pet peeves...it's never just the house for me but also what it looks like getting there.
My two cents. The house was by far the nicest I have seen in the triangle in that price range $350k+.
We bought a nice one but on a postage stamp lot. We're middle age; less maintenance works for us.

The best of luck to you.

Nice houses, close to shopping and downtown.Somehow even with all that it just isn't a vibrant community. Hate it or love it,gentrification is what seperates the desired older neighborhoods and urban locales. This one is a hair too far down 401 and is surrounded by lower end retail.

We actually looked at a house in that neighborhood. The 2 things that drew us away were that it was a bit further out than we liked, and it was on a septic tank. But the actual neighborhood seemed quiet and taken care of when we drove through it a few times. If you love the house, just make sure you drive through a few different times of day/night first and then go for it! That's what we did with our Garner house and 1.5 years later we are still so in love!
