Lucky 32 in Cary will be open. Post any other ones you know of! I know a lot of people won't be driving but there are some folks that have to go to work anyways. If you can walk to an open restaurant, think about eating out!

I just got back from Portland, OR where they had a sizable weather event and it sure appeared the locally- owned small cafe's and restaurants that stayed open were doing booming business. I'm quite sure for the one's that were able to stay open, it made a dramatic positive impact on their bottom line. Also a great opportunity to try something a little different that may have been right under your nose.
After a couple of days with the city being essentially shut down, the things I noticed were the grocery stores took on a mid-60's Soviet appearance, particularly in the fresh bakery section and the beer cooler.
I for one left the car garaged and did exactly what you're supposed to do, shuffled over snowy sidewalks going from place to place looking for the best Irish Coffee the city had to offer
Be safe folks (oh, and by the way, when it starts to warm up be careful of ice and snow falling from buildings. It's surprisingly easy to get clocked by a chunk of ice... at least I thought it was ice)
Sorry for a slight hijack, but I feel like I must say this. People driving out for pleasure tonight potentially put emergency personnel and those who truly HAVE to be out at risk.

That's why the OP said to walk to an open place if you can. Or if you are already driving to work, stop and get something hot to eat.
Be courteous to the staff if you go out! I'm sure they'd rather be home.
God, can't imagine those that are single parents that get snowed in on their jobs.
I think a lot of places are open if there staff is close by. There are a lot of people stranded in their offices downtown, for instance, and need a place to eat. Last I heard Raleigh Times was trying to stay open. The Borough is open now, but may not have the kitchen open, just open for the neighbors to have somewhere to go. Assume there are others too.

Yup, that was the case in Portland a few days ago. Most places that stayed lit had owners and staff living nearby. All the more reason, if you're so inclined and you're on foot, to go have a bite and a toddy and tip well. A lost shift for many of these folks can really hurt. Another bonus: I found I met a lot of interesting folks from the neighborhood and made some new friends along the way. Nothing like a little adversity to build a sense of community.
