I'll throw in a boring answer. The Triangle is a bubble, and it is reflected in local forums and blogs (not just here). Computer literacy, education level, relocated population. Plus, as others have said, a few good apples appear to have gotten the forum off to a good start and it has mostly kept on that path.
I have extended family in the Triad and they don't need to post about where the best bbq is ... it is at the place they've eaten since they were toddlers. And they'll see people they went to high school with every time they stop in.
