Long story short, my car became disabled (A hawk collided with my car's grill at 70mph and the radiator took a fatal hit) and I parked it at one of the two Target stores on Timber Drive in Garner tonight. I realized, while talking to my wife (who was coming to pick me up) on my cell phone, that there are two Target stores on Timber Drive (east and west?). About that time, the store's staff were leaving the front of the store after the store had closed, headed for their cars. I'm an exuberant, friendly male, and I enthusiastically approached one of the Target employees, announced myself from a good 75 feet away, and asked: "could you help me?" (With what is the address of both Target stores on this road/my wife had driven to the other one, and we needed the address to the one I was currently at). The young man/employee immediately asked me to "keep my distance!" I was still a good 60 feet away from him. I've never heard this before while kindly asking someone for information or help. I'm wondering if there has been crime recently in that part of Garner. And if no one's heard of such concerns, what is a "keep your distance" request about? I've never heard of it before.
They're probably trained to do that. Sometimes employees are grabbed either before a store (bank, etc.) is opened or after it's closed by a potential robber/burglar and forced to disable alarms to let them in. I probably would have done the same.
Do you have GPS on your phone and could you have determined the address yourself? Or could you have navigated to "the nearest Target" using it?
Crooks are creative. Can't be too careful these days.
No there has not been any crime on Timber Drive in Garner of note. (I have lived on Timber Drive for 20 years) East or West side.
They are simply trained to do that. Frankly if a stranger approached my wife, I would prefer she told the person to stay back. It's the times we live in.
the one on the west side always seem to be trouble
Really? The closest thing I've seen to trouble in any of the Timber Drive plazas was some kids playing their car stereos loud by the Food Lion, but I'm a newbie.

I guess I should have said it seemed to have been trouble in the past. Not that I personally saw anything, but I remember my wife telling me she saw some people stealing clothes and other items when she used to shop there. Just typical people shoving stuff into large bags and wearing coats when it was warm out. Pretty obvious. That was about 8 years ago. They closed earlier and had more of a security presence at night. She said she did not feel safe there at night by herself....
