Hello Everyone,
We are moving to Cary from NJ this summer and have been researching special education programs for our kid who is in the first grade and has been getting services [3 times speech per week and 2 times OT per week] here in NJ since she was in preschool.
We know that in NC the system is a bit different than in NJ. In NJ we have a classification of just AU but here in NC it is AU 1, AU2 etc.
Now we know that AU1 programs are from K-2 and AU2 are 3-5.I would like to know about the top rated schools for both AU1 and AU2 programs since our kid will be in AU1 program for 2014 school year and then will go on to AU2 program?
We are preferably looking for these schools in Cary/West Cary and Apex area.

Highcroft Drive has an AU1 program. My son started there in third grade and wouldn't have been placed in an AU1 class (higher functioning), but I can say that his third and fourth grade teachers have been extremely understanding and helpful. The culture of the school is great, with counselors, psychiatrist, and administration all being helpful. My son practically screams "pick on me", but the other students have been very nice and even a bit protective of him.

This is a program for Autistic kids, hence classified as AU.

Thanks so much for the info on Highcroft school.I think Highcroft school serves from K-5 if I am not mistaken.We would definitely look into this school.
